how to change from not allowing comments to allowing comments
-
I looked this up and found two ways to do this, neither of which I was able to figure out. The first is for a specific post and says to open an existing post, which I did, then open more options. Then it says to open more options an check ‘allow comments’ but I saw nothing that said ‘more options> much less ‘allow comments.’ The second way is to go to WP admin — posts and follow directions for bulk editing. I went to WP admin and then went to posts but again found nothing there about bulk editing. For a website manager I am very challenged when it comes to websites, as you can tell. Please help.

Adding /wp-admin/options-discussion.php to your site address enables comments for future posts. Existing posts need to have comments enabled individually via the post editor, the cog top right and scroll down to “discussion” then update.

You may have been looking at support articles for wordpress.org rather than wordpress.com, which is what you are using.
To allow comments on future posts, under https://wordpress.com/settings/discussion/ choose “Allow people to post comments on new articles.”
On any existing individual post you can go to Edit and then choose to “Allow Comments” in the “Discussion” section.
You *are* also able to bulk edit as you read about in your previous research. To do so you’ll need to:
1) Go into your wp-admin, at http://cascholars4academicfreedom.wordpress.com/wp-admin
2) Choose “Posts” on the left sidebar
3) Select all of your existing posts using the checkbox at the top next to “Title”
4) Under the “Bulk actions” dropdown at the top, choose “Edit” then “Apply”
5) Choose “Allow” under “Comments” then “Update”That should allow comments on all of your previously existing posts.
