  Can I change the name on my site address without purchasing a domain name?
  For example: My site address is (email visible only to moderators and staff), I want it to be (email visible only to moderators and staff). How do I change that?

  You can certainly change your site address to any available address. You don’t have to purchase a domain for that. All available ‘.wordpress.com’ subdomains are free. You only need to purchase a domain if you don’t want the ‘.wordpress.com’ part.
