How to change order of posts?

  • Unknown's avatar

I accidentally published two draft posts out of order and I want to reorder them. Also, in the past when I’ve published posts in quick succession, I’ve noticed that their order did not follow according to the order I published them. It would be handy to be able to reorder posts for these reasons.

    Hey Kamal,

The order of posts on your homepage is based on the published date in the post editor, with the newest at the top.

To change this, edit the post and change the publish date in the top right corner of the post editor as shown here:

If you have any other questions, or concerns, please reply back to me as soon as you can, I am more than happy to help you out!

    Best,
    Brie

    Hi Brie,

Thanks so much for a quick and helpful response! I’ll do that asap. The only thing I wanted to mention though is that my posts aren’t ordered by publish date, but rather by the date I first saved a draft of the post. Therefore, a new post today was scheduled two weeks ago (when I first saved a draft of that post) instead of today. This quirk is what confused me, but I’ll be taking your advice for sure.

    Thanks again :)

    Best,
    Kam

Thanks so much for the report! I’ll do some testing and see if I can replicate this.

Just to make sure I understand the steps you took, you created a post two weeks ago and scheduled it to post yesterday. When it posted today, it had a date stamp of two weeks ago, and appeared in your recent posts list as if it had been published two weeks ago.

Did you make any other changes to the publish date of this post?

Please let me know if this happens again!

    Thanks, great to hear!

Yeah, sorry, I only just realised that I might have used a WordPress term without realising it! Basically, I created a draft of a post but I didn’t schedule it or anything like that; just a draft that I could edit and publish later. When I finished my editing a couple of weeks later and hit ‘Publish’, it didn’t appear as my my most recent blog but rather further down and dated according to the date of the first saved draft (even though I specifically never ‘published’ any draft).

On the plus side, I followed Brie’s advice and edited the dates myself yesterday and that has worked, which is great. Just thought I’d point out how I noticed the issue (it’s happened twice, both with drafts that have sat waiting to be published for a few weeks).

Thanks for the prompt and helpful support :)

Thanks so much for the follow up! Those steps are really helpful for my testing. I’ll let you know if we’re able to figure out what was causing this.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with! :)
