How to change settings for email notifications of comments for multi-user blog

  • Unknown's avatar

My blog is multi user. I don’t want to receive email notifications of comments on posts as I am not the author of the posts on the blog, however I would still like the AUTHOR to receive email notifications. How can I change this specific to the USER?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Only the author of the post will receive the notifications for comments on that post. You can read more about those notifications here: Comment Notification Email

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

I know it says that is what happens in theory, however in reality, all users (or those who are admin at least) are emailed EVERY time there is a comment. Not fun in my case, as I built the site for someone else, need to stay admin so that I can access the blog for further work, but don’t want to deal with the actual blog comments etc. There are not enough options to personalise each users experience unfortunately!

Well, that doesn’t sound right. Sounds like there might be a bug or something else going on there! Could you give me a link to the blog where that’s happening? I’d like to investigate that for you.

I see the same with a blog I admin

    http://svcodeblue.wordpress.com/

in this case the Authors are out of internet range sometimes so me getting the notice of the comments helps to keep me from needing to visit the blog to check on comments

Would be really nice if this was some sort of configuration setting to set exactly who gets notification – in some cases blogs have someone taking care of the day to day stuff – but they are Editor so no notice happens

@auxclass – Thanks for letting me know. It might be that when a comment has to be moderated, blog admins are notified, but if a comment is already approved then the post author is notified. In any case, that would explain why you get comment moderation emails for that blog. Does that sound right?

@carenhastings – When you get those comment notifications, are they asking you to moderate (e.g. approve) new comments on the blog? Or do you get notifications about all comments that are posted?

Codeblue (and all my blogs) are set to comment moderate – I do most of the posting but set the author to Steve & Judy – when I do that – notification goes to both them (author of the Post) and to me (Admin / blog owner)

I have seen other blogs where the Admin / owner was not active day to day or was on vacation and an Editor was doing day to day duties and the Editor could not get notification of the comments waiting moderation – so that is why my suggestion to have the who gets notified a configuration setting so the duties could be swapped around – yes a bit of checking would be required to make sure that one person (account) was not sent more than one notification

Thanks for the additional details, auxclass. I’ll do some testing on my end and then pass along the details and your suggestion to our team, so they can consider implementing the sort of notification settings you mentioned. Cheers!
