How to change site URL
-
I created my site literally only a few minutes ago. It’s StepInTheWriteDirection.wordpress.com and I bought the package to reserve the domain name StepInTheWriteDirection.com Now I’ve decided I want to switch it to AStepInTheWriteDirection.com with an ‘A’ at the front. It’s minimal, I know, but that’s what I’d like. However, when I went to the help section here [http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL] it said go to Settings->General but the steps they described weren’t there when I did that. Please help!

Hi there!
The steps you linked to were for self-hosted sites running off the free and open-source software available at WordPress.org. WordPress.com is a shared hosting environment and instructions for how to change your site’s domain differ. If you’re unsure of the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, then this guide will help out:
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/To change your site’s domain here at WordPress.com, you’ll need to cancel the old one via My Upgrades and then register your new one via the Domains page.
I can see that you’ve successfully completed those steps and can now see your site at astepinthewritedirection.com. :) Do you have any extra questions around this? If so, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

No further questions. I decided to cancel the old domain and register the new one last night prior to reading your answer. Fortunately everything worked out. Thanks for the help!

I’m glad everything worked out! :) If anything else does come up, then we’ll be right here.
