How to change the default Site Administrator

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi.

I recently removed an Admin account on my client’s WordPress website.

I also changed the password of another Admin account. I received an email notification saying I changed the Password. Then it says to contact the Site Administrator (Name of Old Admin whom I already removed).

How do I change the Site Admin so that the Old Admin’s name will be changed to another Admin account?

    Thanks

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Unknown

  • Hi,

Just to clarify, is this site hosted here on WordPress.com? Or is it a site built with the open source WordPress software (from WordPress.org), but hosted elsewhere?

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

Yes, the site is built with WordPress software (WordPress.org) and hosted elsewhere.

    More context:

The email address that receives the notifications whenever an admin (me) changes another user’s password is actually my boss’ email address. And because the previous Site Admin is not part of the team now, my boss is wondering why the notification is still referring to the deleted account of the previous Site Admin.

Finally, what I want to know is where do I need to go to change that setting so the notifications will refer to my desired User/Admin’s name?

    Thank you

  • Hi there,

It will be best to ask the WordPress.org community, who make the version of WordPress you’re using, for advice on this:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

We use a modified version of WordPress here on WordPress.com, with our own user management system that doesn’t work the same as in the open source software, so I’m afraid we’re not really able to advise you on the best course of action here.
