I would like to change my blog name from xxx.worldpress.com to http://www.xxx.ch

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

It looks like you already have the domain swissbiofarmer.com set up on your site!

The xxx.wordpress.com address is an internal address that was created when you created your account and blog.

If you wish to change your WordPress.com address, you can do so by following these instructions:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/

This is purely for your benefit, as the WordPress.com name change will be invisible to the visitors to your site.

If you ever decide to no longer use the domain swissbiofarmer.com, your site will still be available at swissbiofarmer.wordpress.com.

You can add the address swissbiofarmer.ch by registering the address with a domain registrar and then mapping the domain your site. It looks like you’ll need to register the domain through SWITCH:

    https://www.nic.ch/reg/index/view.html?lid=en

Does that clarify things? Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Hi Shawna
Thanks for the quick response. But its not for the swissbiofarmer website. It is for the naturpuur.ch website. Since wordpress does not do .ch, i had to do external hosting and am redirecting now to the naturpuur.wordpress.com. But i want visitors to see http://www.naturpuur.ch in the address bar when they go on the site.
    How do i do that?
    Thanks
    Thomas

oh and another question: i do not see the plugin button in my dashboard. where is that?

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh great! You’re almost set up then! Just head to the dashboard of your site and go to Store > My Domains. Select the toggle under Primary Domain next to naturpuur.ch and save your changes.

Now when you visit your site, the URL naturpuur.ch will appear in the address bar instead of naturpuur.wordpress.com.

It is not possible to install plugins on WordPress.com, for security reasons. Plugins can only be installed on self-hosted WordPress blogs. If you are wondering how WordPress.com differs from WordPress.org, this support article explains the distinction:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

WordPress.com has a lot of built-in features that were inspired by popular plugins. Chances are, the feature you are looking for is already there! You can search our support site via this link:

    ok thanks.
unfortunately the redircet is not working when i check naturpuur.ch as my primary domain. i dont really understand this.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there!

I just changed the primary domain setting for you so I could see what was happening. If you were getting a site redirect loop error, this is normal. It will only happen for a few minutes before the DNS settings straighten themselves out.

I’ll check back in a few minutes, but let me know if you see any other types of errors before I get back to you again! :)

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello again!

I just checked back and everything seems to be working now. If it’s still not quite right for you, can you try clearing your cache and cookies?

Unfortunately it did not work and i could not view the website at all. I changed it back to naturpuur.wordpress.com being the primary domain. :-(
Another question: i have an “archive” widget on the right sidebar. I want to remove that. I could remove all other widgets but that one keeps staying. How do i g e t rid of it?
    Thank you!

  • Unknown's avatar

It looks like naturpuur.ch is still set as your primary domain. I would suggest letting the DNS settings propagate for at least a day if not two. Usually these types of changes happen very quickly, but every once in a while it can take up to 48 hours for the domain settings to take full effect.

You should be able to remove the Archive widget the same way you removed all the others. I’ve gone ahead and done this for you and it seemed to work.

It sounds like you may be having network issues which is causing some of these changes to not save when you make them. Are you having similar problems when you work from another computer? Or another network, like a local library or coffee shop?

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok. It seems to work on all browsers i tried except some issues in Safari on one laptop. Thank you!
I have now tried to hide all widgets for the home page (the about page) and when i do that it adds an archive widget. What i would reall love to do is to remove the widget sidebar and make the space for text and pictures bigger for the home page. How do i do that?
And is there a way to make a webshop?

    Great! I’m glad it’s working.

Sure! The best way to do this is to edit your page and add the Full Width Template to it. You can do this by opening your Page in the editor. Along the right hand side, you’ll see a “Page Attributes” module. Under there, you can select the Full Width Template from the drop down menu. Make sure you save your changes!

And is there a way to make a webshop?

You can use one of our eCommerce plugins if you upgrade to the Business plan. Here’s some information on that:

    Hey there
Maybe i misunderstand because I am doing it in german. But all is see in the page editor mode is:
    Colors
    Header
    Fonts
    Menüs
    Start page
    Blog title
    CSS
    Theme options
    Social Links
    Widgets main sidebar
    Widgets footer
    Widgets top

Where do i get to page attributes?

    Thanks

  • Unknown's avatar

The module should be right underneath the Publish button. However, you may have it turned off. At the very top of the editor in the right corner, you should see a little menu drop down that says Screen Options. Once opened, there are a bunch of modules you can enable and disable. Make sure that “Page Attributes” is checked.

Let me know if you still aren’t seeing it! :)

  • Unknown's avatar

I found the Screen Options, but the only options available are: Auf einen Blick, Aktivität, Aktionen, Gerade angesagt, Schneller Entwurf, Statistik

    Nothing about Page Attributes.

  • Unknown's avatar

It looks like you’re visiting Screen Options while on the front page of your dashboard. This menu is going to show different options for each page in your dashboard, so first navigate to the page editor and then click on Screen Options.

I just checked the German interface and I’m seeing Seitan-Attribute listed under my Screen Options in the Page editor.

Let me know if you’re not able to find it!

    Hi there.
So everything has worked out fine. Thanks so much.
I would now like to try out something new with my swissbiofarmer site as well so I would like to use squarespace. I need to change my CNAME to ext.squarespace.com but I am not able to edit that.
How do I do that? Or how do i just delete all that on wordpress so i can re-register it in squarespace?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there!

Here’s a guide to mapping your domain to your Squarespace site:

    http://help.squarespace.com/guides/mapping-a-domain-general-instructions-a-record

And here’s a guide for changing your A records here at WordPress.com:

Point a domain name to an external IP address

And then you’ll just need to do this last step of linking your Squarespace site to the domain:

Let me know if I can help further!
