How to change the Width of content?

Hi
I have been trying to change the width of my content for a few days now
but i dont seem to be able to get it right!
at the moment my blog width is set to 760px
i want to change my blog width to 1020 px, so i typed this in ‘#wrapper {width: 760px}’
but after i change that,
my blog has a massive gap between the sidebar and the content
i still want to change my blog width to 1020px
and what i want is to leave the side bar the same width
but extend the width of my content , eg, so the pictures can be bigger and the text runs longer each line to fill up more space of the blog.
i hope that makes sense!

You have to change the width in #primary by the same amount that you increased #wrapper. In this case, 1020 – 760 = 260px . #primary width has to be 500 + 260 = 760px .

one more question,
now I want to align my comment section and my ‘home’ n ‘about’ headings to the rest of the main content (coz they are still stuck on 500px width)
so i type in
#comments {
width:760px;
}

#about {
width: 760px;
}

but that didnt work

In ” #nav-1, #navigation .menu ” change the width to the same width as set in #primary. That will align the menu tabs with the content area.

For the comments on pages and posts, change the width in #comments and #respond to the same width as in #primary as well (760px).
