How to change the width of the content area?

  I am new to this theme and to wordpress in general and was wondering if there’s any way to increase the width of the main content area. I think its around 676px by default but i’d appreciate any help to make it slightly wider than that.

  WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and have different logins, features and run different versions of some themes with the same names http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
