How to change URL to it posts title appropriately
-
I’ve updated an older blog post, tried to post it elsewhere and the image and the title are wrong, still the old ones. This is not the first time this has happened. I’ve cleared cache/cookies, tried a different browser. Image posts correctly now, but the URL and title won’t change. Help please.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there! I’m not sure I’m understanding what’s happened here. Can you confirm if this sounds right:
You had an older blog post on your blog rekedar.wordpress.com. You decided to reblog this post on another WordPress.com site. But when you reblogged it, the link doesn’t go to the right URL.
If this is correct, can you link me to the original post and the reblogged post so I can take a look?

No, sorry. I rewrote things on an old blog post and changed the image and the title, then updated. When I try to post this post on FB or twitter, it has the old URL or something and it retains the old title. I did manage–who knows how–to get the new image to transfer. That help?

Yes. I now call it, “men can ‘hate’ patriarchy too” but see that the URL still has the old title: “but don’t you hate.” Thanks!

Thanks for the link! When you change the title of a post, we don’t automatically update the URL. When you change the URL, you’ll lose all of your current share counts and possibly cause broken links to your site if other people have linked to the old URL.
If you’d like to go ahead with changing the URL, you can do that in Advanced Settings. You’ll want the “Slug” box.
Let me know if you have any more questions! :)

Well, I don’t have to change the URL but I want the new title to post appropriately. Can that happen without changing it? Or do I have to? I’m between clients so I can’t check out what you’re saying about the “slug” box at this time.

When you say you “want the new title to post appropriately”, do you mean that you’re sharing this post on a social network and the wrong title is getting pulled up? Can you tell me the site you’re trying to share this post to?
-
Yes. I copy the link and try to put it up on FB and it comes out with the old title, not the new one.

Great! That is something I can fix. :)
For your reference, I fixed this by plugging the URL in here:
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/
After I selected “Debug” two new buttons show up along with all of the current info about the post. I could see the old title and some errors about the image, so I selected “Fetch new scrape information”. This told Facebook to go grab the page’s contents again.
Sharing the post on Facebook should work correctly now. :)

Thanks so much! So, can *I* do this (and inept computer code person) on another post that’s “broken” when it comes to title?
See how the URL still has “part 1” on it but the new title doesn’t? https://rekedar.wordpress.com/2015/02/16/science-is-not-god-sorry-part-1/ -
Yep! You can run the Facebook debugger on any of your posts. Often times, that can help clear up issues with sharing counts and other items related to Facebook. Just plug the URL in the field here:
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/
Then, click “Fetch New Scrape Information” as Shawna mentioned.
However, I don’t think the issue you mentioned is on the Facebook end though. The Part 1 portion of the URL for this post is not included in the title:
https://rekedar.wordpress.com/2015/02/16/science-is-not-god-sorry-part-1/
You can see that here:
https://rekedar.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=5283&action=edit
At the top of the page, you’ll notice that Part 1 is missing as shown here:
I would suggest doing the following:
1. Adding Part 1 to the title field
2. Updating the post (blue button on the right-hand side)
3. Running the post URL through the Facebook Debugger
4. Repost the article to Facebook manually
The “Part 1” portion should then appear on Facebook in the post title!
