How to clear deleted files from cache?

Hello, the wordpress website we have accidentally published a pdf containing some sensitive information. We have deleted the pdfs from our media library but the direct links still come up and it has been a week since we deleted them. Is there a way to clear the cache more quickly?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

To keep things running quickly around here, files are held in multiple caches through a separate system. These caches are usually cleared within 3 days and the files will then become 404 page not found.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Deleting blogs and/or blog content does not remove any indexed items from the SERPs (search engine page results). Google and Bing only clear their caches of deleted indexed content that produces a 404 (page not found) every 3 – 6 months.

Hi timethief,

Thanks for the followup. I deleted the files on the 5th, but they are still showing up in the cache. When I go into our media folder, the files are definitely not there anymore, but the direct links are still active. Is it possible they could be in some other cache that hasn’t been cleared yet?

Can you show me the direct links? If you do not want to post them here, you could list them in a post on your site and save that post as a draft. I will be able to see it then.

I’m getting a ‘404 file not found’ for both of those.

Can you try clearing your browser cache and making sure that your browser isn’t just using an old version of the page?

Heya,

I sent the links to my phone and clicked on them in there and they’re still working there, too. My phone is on AT&T LTE, definitely not the building’s network, so it may be cached somewhere else possibly?

Permanently removing a media file link. We shared a docx through our site, and would like to remove it now. I selected the ‘permanently delete’ option through the media library, but the link is still active.
