How to click button on main page and take to page with blogs?
-
I am using Miller theme and have no idea what I’m doing. I have these buttons on my page (came with Miller theme) and I want to be able to click them and open a page with certain blogs based on category. As in, the main page has categories, and someone can click ‘recipes’ and be taken to a page with all my recipe blogs. Is that possible? I have no idea what to do. I accidentally changed from my old theme and can’t go back.

Hi there,
Do you want the buttons at the bottom of the front page to link to your categories? I see you’ve changed the button text to show your category names, but you haven’t added your category links to those buttons, so they won’t do anything. At the moment you also don’t have any categories – all your posts are published in the default “Uncategorized” category.
So first, edit each of your posts in turn, and add the category you want to each:
https://wordpress.com/support/posts/categories/
Then to add the links, edit the front page, and click on the buttons at the bottom. Click on an individual button, and click the link icon in the block toolbar that appears. Then paste in your category archive link for that category. For example, if you’ve added the category “Recipes” to a post, the link will be
https://graceincreasing.wordpress.com/category/recipes/, and for a category called “Spirituality and Religion”, the category archive link will behttps://graceincreasing.wordpress.com/category/spirituality-and-religion/Another option is to create a site menu. Miller doesn’t include one by default, as Miller is designed to be used for sites that are just a single landing page. But you can create your own menu for the site.
Again, first make sure you already have categories assigned to your posts. Then go to Appearance ->Customize ->Menus.
Click on the one that says Primary.
Click on Add Items, select Categories, and add the categories directly to your site menu.
If you want your main posts page that shows all published posts to be accessible as well, click Add Items ->Pages ->Blog.
Lastly, make sure the box next to Primary Navigation under the menu locations section is checked.

I accidentally changed from my old theme and can’t go back.
It looks like you originally had the Cubic theme on your site before you started looking at new themes around two weeks ago. If you want to go back to that theme, go to Appearance ->Themes and search for it there.

Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!! That was exactly what I needed.
I have another question. I was able to add the links to categories, but is there a way to have the posts displayed by title or something after the link is clicked? Right now they are showing up like one long blog. Thank you for your time.

Hi @graceincreasing, the category link will just show a blog page however your theme is designed. But if you want more control, try this:
– Create a new page
– Choose a layout you like
– If you don’t already have one, add a Blog Posts Block.
– Remove whatever blocks you don’t want
– Save the page, then link to that from your menu instead
Want to give that a shot?

That was super helpful! Thanks! I was able to add another page, and I will continue to work on it for each category.
My question now is how can I direct blogs to the page I want? My latest ones came up on the new page, but when I allowed for more blogs in the block, all of the blogs came in.
Sorry for all the questions. I really appreciate the help.

To make sure I understand, you want your page at https://graceincreasing.wordpress.com/recipes/ to only show the posts for that category, correct?
Edit that page and click on the Blog Posts block section. Then click on Display Settings in the block options that appear in the sidebar.
Look for the Categories option, and type the name of your category there – as you start typing it should expand a list of available categories, so you can just select the one you want.
Now once you update the page, that block will only list posts matching your selected category.
You can find more detailed information on the different options available for the blog posts block here:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/blog-posts-block/
Repeat the process on other pages for your other categories, and update your buttons block to link to the new pages, and you should be all set :)
