how to click on images and get a story about the image ?

    hi WordPress
I have quite a few wordpress blogs : ms3251 was my first one.
I don’t have a good grasp of blog formatting however nor can I use code…
Anyhow I have a wordpress blog that is about my artwork: juliegough.net and in the four sections: artworks about ……
I want to be able to click on an artwork image in these sections – and not be shown the bigger solo version image of an artwork, but to click on the image and be shown the artist statement story about each work [kind of hiding behind each image]. Can this be done ? and if so please forward me instructions for how to do so – or do I need to make a website instead of a blog ?
Many thanks for any help with this.

    Hi Julie,

It sounds like what you’re going for is that a reader clicks on an image, and then a caption appears on the same page — no going to a new page, no reloading, etc. To create this type of interactivity would require a bit of JavaScript, which can’t be freely edited on WordPress.com.

Here’s something you could do though:

    1. Create a new post about the artwork with all the information you’d like to share
    2. Publish the post
    3. Open a new window and click Edit on your current image page (e.g. Artwork About Place)
    4. Click on the image you just wrote the post for, then click the pencil to edit it. (Like this)
    5. Copy the URL of your new post (where you wrote the story)
    6. On the Edit Image page, select Custom URL and paste the URL

In this way, when a reader clicks the image the are taken to the story of that image, but on a different page.

Another option available is to add all your individual images on a page into a Gallery:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/

You can then type in the Story about each image as the caption of the Gallery. The Mosaic gallery option behaves somewhat how you’re describing.

    Best,
