How to close a site for which login details are not accessible

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, I would like to close a business blog which has not been active for 5 years.
I thought I had deleted my account, but the blog posts are still there. I cannot login with my secondary email address, and because the email address was connected to my shop website which is now defunct, I cannot access the main email address to get a forgotten password link or find any original access code. I did not have an authentication app. How do I close the blog down please? It is this one: https://sheepshopcambridge.wordpress.com/

Wordpress.com doesn’t close a site on demand, only the owner is able to do so. That site is connected to another account of yours sheepshopcambridge. You must log out from current esperopasero and log in again as sheepshopcambridge.
if you don’t know what email that site is connected to, just leave a comment from current account and check all your email addresses.

    Hi there,

First, you might want to try recovering your account since the account owner can only delete the site.
To recover your WordPress account, fill out the account recovery form and the team will get in touch with you soon.
    https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

Upon obtaining account access to your WordPress.com account from https://wordpress.com/me/account, you can permanently close it.

You can find more information here:
    https://wordpress.com/support/close-account/

Please note that you will lose all the sites you own and their contents when you close your account. Within a few weeks, the data will be removed entirely from the system, and at this point, this cannot be undone.

    Hope this helps! :)

  • Hi @esperopasero

We are not able to help here in the support forums, as verifying account ownership requires us to ask you to provide info that is best not shared in this public venue.

With this in mind, please fill out this form here to the best of your ability: https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

This will send all the info you have to our account recovery team, and from there they will contact you directly to assist you in regaining access to the account that owns sheepshopcambridge.wordpress.com.

Note: If you do not have the proofs asked for in that form, you can choose the Transaction ID and enter a random string of numbers to allow you to send the form.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction!

Many thanks folks. The make a comment on the blog was a good idea but as none of my email addresses received any notification I am unfortunately no closer to logging in.

For the account recovery it will not accept a random string of numbers as a valid transaction id. Is there a dummy transaction id I could use?

  • @esperopasero Try reaching out here with the same info you would use in the form, as well as any proof you have that the site was yours. passwordhelp@wordpress.com
