How to completely disable comments (on future and old posts)
-
Hello,
I have a blog on wp.com.I tried going to thisisme.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-discussion.php?updated=true and I removed the checkbox for “Allow people to post comments on new articles”.
I made a new post and before i hit the publish button, i made sure that there was no check in the box for “Allow comments on this post”.
Yet I still see the “Leave a comment” link.
Plus, for an older post, I removed the check in the box for “Allow comments on this post”. Yet I also see a “Leave a comment” link there.
Help!

You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.
This support forum is for WordPress.com hosted blogs only. If you have a self-hosted WordPress blog you need to seek help at the WordPress.org forums, not here.
If you don’t understand the difference, you may find this information helpful.

You can’t get rid of that link, no matter what, on WordPress.com. I don’t think you can even make it invisible with the paid CSS upgrade.

hmm???
On my test blog, I tried the themes Unsleepable, and also Blix. Disabled comments for a post.
Unsleepable shows two comment balloons and the word “closed.”
“Blix” shows no link to commenting.
Tried “Dusk” (as is the theme of the op/questioner http://thisisme.wordpress.com/2005/11/04/this-is-me/ ) and it says “comments off” in my test blog.My test blog is private, so the post has no comments, but perhaps that is the difference? I must sleep, so I don’t have time to add a comment to that post and re-test. Perhaps once there is a comment, you can not turn off the “leave a comment?”

ORLY??? That’s big news. I’ve never heard of a theme that was aware enough to do that, and those are not new themes, either. Maybe they’ve been fixed, or maybe nobody tried them before?
Anyway, thanks.

dunno.
I only just tried it.
Might be just that my test blog is private with no comments on the post I tested?shrug…
