How to condense blog posts on the root page ?

  Hi,
  I was wondering if there was a setting so that I can condense my blog posts on the main page with a quick summary and have a ‘read more’ button where the reader would have to click on in order to read the entire blog entry. Does that depend on theme? What free themes offers this? I just don’t want to have my entire blog post shown from the main page, making the page very long.

  The first one is to write an excerpt. This excerpt document also has a link to themes that support excerpts.
