how to condense post's on home page so they don't appear fully

  hi there,

  on my blogs home page i am wanting to create short segments of each blog post. my blog currently displays the entire blog post on the home page, but i am wanting to make them condensed so the reader can pick and choose in an easy manner rather than scrolling down the page. thanks so much!! my blog is https://findleyclare.wordpress.com if you need to have a look to see what i mean. i have the pen scratch theme

  ok so i have worked out how to get the images to appear, but how to i get them to appear to the side, so they are more condensed? also how do i make my blog posts appear horizontally rather than vertically?
