How to connect an existing website to wordpress?

    I am trying to connect an existing website domain to wordpress, but I am not sure where to start. A friend has asked me to help him spruce up his website so I want to make sure that his current site does not get compromised until the new site is ready for completion.

    I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

    Hi! No problem. You’re welcome to create his new site with us before pointing the domain here. That way his current site can stay “live” until the new one is ready.

    I do recommend getting a plan earlier on if he’ll need it, since they have other features you both might find useful, including direct support:
    https://wordpress.com/plans

    Then just avoid using the domain options until you’re ready, and then you can connect or transfer the domain.
