How to contact support when you can't log into an account

I am trying to help some friends whose paid wordpress account has apparently been hacked, or someone associated with the group has hijacked it. This is a paid account, but since they can’t log in, they can’t access tech support to resolve it. Any suggestions? TY

The forum here works well –

What is the URL of site / blog your friends need help with – we need that to make sure you are in the correct forum and give you accurate help – also for the staff to look at the blog / account and see what happened

If there are privacy issues then the staff will move the support into email – they also have procedures for recovering an account

I will flag this for the staff to help you

Please see below for “hacked” sites on WordPress.COM

    Hacked Sites

The only “hacked” sites I have seen here have been people getting the password somehow to a site so you do want to be careful how you log in and use a tough password.

You should also check to make sure that someone has not added a new user to your site. Problems have also happened when there was more than one Admin. and an Admin left on less than graceful terms.

    Dashboard >> Users

Many times a users email is hacked or the password guessed and the email account is used to get access by requesting a password reset – you need to change your email password and make sure they nobody has been added to your email account.

You should also run a virus check on you PC to make sure your PC does not have a security issue that has compromised your email or WordPress.COM log-in information (also your bank etc. if you do online banking or retirement accounts)

There have also been a few Posts on “hacked” sites and it was because someone got the Post by Email address and using the Post by Email to send in new Posts, if you have Post by email disable the Post by Email and regenerate the address. Spammers have scripts the generate email addresses and they sometimes can get a valid address for a Post by Email address.

If you are really concerned you could as the staff to look at your site: http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

You could also use a secure log-in in case you are on an unsecured link: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

The site is occupyportland.org (occupyportland.wordpress.com) When you go to the site, there is a message that says the site has been made private. None of their several login passwords work any more. The Whois info has all changed to nothing that they recognize, and the phone # on the whois records is for a google voice number, and the person there knows nothing about the group.

I am helping them out cause none of them is very technical and really don’t know what to do at this point. I can get you emails for the folks in the group who were admins if you need that to continue.

Thanks for the quick reply and the help.

The staff will reply in this thread with more instructions – when a blog is taken things get difficult in a hurry – don’t put any email here – one of the problems with blogs that are taken is that many times there are more than one Admin and one of the Admins goes a bit rogue – I have seen several threads here and always a tough one

    Best of luck

No, would not post emails here. There were three admins, but none of them seem to know anything about what happened. TY for the help.

Problem solved. Apparently they needed to pay for the domain renewal, and once they did that the problem went away.

  • Great to hear.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you. Otherwise, thanks for using WordPress.
