How to control titles in sidebar?
-
Some people seem to have customized their sidebars. They change the order of the titles, for example; or eliminate some titles; or change the title words.
How to do this?
If I wanted to eliminate the word “blogroll,” for example, how can it be done?
If I wanted to substitue another word, how can that be done?
If I wanted to eliminate the sidebar altogether, is that possible?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It’s just beginning. I have been looking at others’ blogs, and noticed that their sidebars seem to be customized.
Does the ability to customize depend greatly on the theme you are using? Or can you control the sidebars in most of the themes?
One person I noticed was using the theme called ‘Vigilance’ and another was using one of the Journalist themes.

Hello there,
The blog you posted the URL for is using this theme > Journalist theme by Lucian E. MarinDoes the ability to customize depend greatly on the theme you are using? Or can you control the sidebars in most of the themes?
All wordpress.com are equipped with widgets. Some themes provide more than 1 sidebar. Some actually have a footer where widgets are displayed. These themes have customizable headers > http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-header-image/
The only means of changing sidebar titles is to purchase a paid and annually renewable CSS upgrade and undertake the work yourself.

I use the Vigilance theme and it has customizable options. Other themes also have customizable options unique to each theme. As far as I know Journalist does not gave any built-in customizable options. If you are looking for a theme then my suggestion is to register a test blog and use it to determine what each theme has to offer and which one suits your needs best. After you choose the theme for your primary blog you can use the test blog to try out any new things you may wish to change on your primary blog first so that when you do make the changes you can do so quickly with the least front page display disturbance. There are also theme feature reviews on this site that you may find helpful http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/category/themes/

By purchasing the CSS editing upgrade, doing the work yourself, and paying to renew it annually.

If I wanted to eliminate the sidebar altogether, is that possible?
(1) By choosing a theme that has this feature like INove or Monochrome.

No: you just go to Links > Add New, and create links and link categories. When you do that, the title or titles of your links will be the link category or categories you have created.

Pretty much all widgets have Title field which you can change to replace with the words of your choice.
@rhgoddard, two of your questions have been answered. I believe it is not possible to eliminate the sidebar altogether unless you choose a theme which has no sidebar.
I’d recommend you read the sticky, adjust your user-name with your blog address and then ask specific questions that needs clarification.
