how to convert posts to static pages?
-
Or maybe I shouldn’t be doing that? I’m old– and new to this techno world. A while back, I created a blog and just set up categories of info in static pages I didn’t post anything. Now, I’ve learned that may not be the best way to present info, especially if you’re seeking SEO. So then I started posting regularly. Now I’d like to take each post and file it under the appropriate static page. I guess I have to copy and paste each post onto a new page, right? But then, that page will show up again on Facebook, etc., right? You got a better idea? I guess I could create categories, but I like the hierarchy of pages. Can you create a hierarchy in categories?

You shouldn’t be doing that. DO NOT DO THAT.
Please read this: http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
For SEO and other reasons, you want POSTS. You do not want PAGES. So don’t do this.
Make sure your posts are categorized correctly and that’s all you have to do. If you want tabs that lead to all the posts in a particular category, just use a Custom Menu and put them in there, like in my blog it’s http://raincoaster.com/category/chihuahua

Thanks so much, raincaster. I’ll have a look at your blog.
Any chance you could have a look at mine? What I really like is the simplicity of seeing those page titles at the top and being able to file every post under one of those pages. So you’re telling me I should get rid of the pages, and then use categories instead of pages, right? In that case, I would have to copy each blurb I’ve previously written (and filed as a page) and then post it, right?
Thanks again.

I’m afraid I haven’t got time to do a free blog audit.
Do you have Posts rather than pages already? If so, just make sure you use the right category for them. Then put the Category link into the custom menu.
If what you have is Pages and not Posts, you’ll have to copy/paste them all into Posts and then follow those instructions above.

That answers the question. Got to copy and paste everything. Thanks for bringing a 50something into the digital world!

NO
I took a quick look and you have POSTS.
The pages you have are Home
BEAUTY TIPS
FITNESS RIFFS
HOLISTIC HELP FOR ALL THAT AILS YOU
WEEDS OF WISDOM ® GUIDE TO HEALTHY PLANTS
CANCER WISDOM
WORKSHOPS
RECIPES
CONTACTEverything else is a POST, so leave those alone.

I understand. I wasn’t clear. I’m just copying and pasting the pages and turning them into posts and then filing the posts in categories, not pages.
Then I’ll get rid of all those pages, right? I should probably have an About and Contact page, right? Any other pages you suggest?
-
About and Contact pages are good. Pages are for things that don’t vary over time or lose their relevance, like bios, lists of services or products, cvs, things like that.
