How to create a form and store the data safely?

I am building my first website and using the free trail membership. My goal is to allow users to sign up to volunteer to help at our Thanksgiving Community Brunch where we feed the homeless. I am unsure how to make a form that will store the information that is provided. If you could provide a source to show me how to create a form and safely store the information, it will be greatly appreciated. In advance thank you for your time and advice.

So long as you’re not collecting extremely private info, like credit card numbers, the custom form here may work:
