How to create a page without a side bar (full width page)?
-
Apparently we can create a full-width page with the TextBook theme (by Automatic) but I can’t find the option to create it (it’s not available at the Page Attributes section). Can anyone teach me?

Hello there,
It looks like we’ve stumbled across a bug here, which we’re looking into.
In order to provide a workaround, can you tell me the name of the page being worked on please?

I created many full width page when I use Libre 2 theme (for example: https://womenxue.wordpress.com/watching/) but when I switched to Textbook theme, it all became pages with sidebar.
I thought it was because TextBook theme did not have the full width page feature but as you can see here https://textbookdemo.wordpress.com/full-width-page-no-sidebar/ the full width page is working just fine.

Thanks for the additional info
I can confirm this seems to be an issue that is specific to the TextBook theme. I have reported this bug to our engineers but I do not have a timeframe on when this will be addressed. We are happy to update you when we know more.
Please note that TextBook is an older “classic” theme launched before we adopted our block editor. With this in mind, fixes on these themes tend to be a lower priority than our more modern themes which are optimized to work with the block editor.
If you are open to it and have a specific need for full width pages, I would recommend switching to another theme. It’s worth noting that our newer themes can use the full width setting option within blocks themselves, so you have the option to make some things full width, and some things at partial width.
This is difficult to explain in words, but in a recent webinar we demonstrate how you can use blocks themselves to create a full width layout, which I think you will find more flexible. https://youtu.be/fQRkzwVPIVI
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Hi again,
After a chat with our devs, it turns out that I was incorrect about the full-width template on the TextBook theme. Apparently, this theme (which, as I mentioned, is an older one) does not use page templates to control the full-width appearance. Instead, it uses “widget visibility” to determine which pages your sidebar widgets show up on: https://wordpress.com/support/widgets/#widget-visibility.
Essentially, you have settings for your widgets, so you can have certain ones appear on particular pages, for example. In this case, if you want a full-width page appearance, you just need to make sure that all widgets are hidden on that page. Once you do that, the page will automatically adopt the full-width appearance.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
