How to create a post/page that won’t publish live?

Hi everyone! Excuse me if this sounds idiotic but I have no idea what this would be called – I want to create a few blog posts that will be live on the blog, but won’t show up on the main page or in people’s google readers when I publish it. In other words, I want to create recipe pages that won’t show up in my header’s links, or on the blog, unless I link to them. Does this make sense? I’ve seen people on other blogs do this for recipes and giveaways before. Any suggestions would be appreciated – I have a wordpress.com blog. Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Who do you want to be able to see it? You could make them Private, or you could make them static Pages instead, which would be visible to everyone but not in the blog posts or on the RSS feed.

Yes, and there really isn’t any way to do that, exclude posts from the main blog page. You could set a static front page, and then not do a normal “posts” page, but the posts, if published, would still show up on post feeds, and be picked up by search engines.

You could make those posts password protected and then give password out somehow. That way even though they would show up in feeds, there would be no content, and they would show up on the blog main page with just a title and a box to enter the password.
