How to create a recipe index with photos?

Is it possible to create a recipe index with photos for each dish with the current theme I have (Creative Portfolio)?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

If you’d like, the Creative Portfolio theme can automatically create a grid of photos on the front page, like you see on the demo site: https://creativeportfoliodemo.wordpress.com/

That will display the photos for your most recent blog posts. To set that up, you can follow the Creative Portfolio “Build Your Home Page” guide. If you have questions about that setup process or the theme’s features, you can get in touch directly with the theme author for more assistance in the Creative Portfolio support forum.

Another option for creating a full index of your recipes is to use the Display Posts Shortcode. You can add that shortcode to a page or a Text Widget to create an index of your posts. You can also include a featured image in that list. Here’s an example of what that shortcode looks like:

    [display-posts image_size="thumbnail" posts_per_page="20"]

That will show your 20 most recent posts along with a thumbnail-sized featured image. You can also divide it up by category or tag, if you’d like. For example, if you want to list all of your salads together, you can use the display posts shortcode for just that category:

    [display-posts category="salads" image_size="thumbnail"]

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Hi, thanks. As I’d like a separate recipe page, I don’t want to have the grid on my home page.

I currently have a page called “Recipes” as part of the main menu. For the second option you mentioned I’ll need your assistance please. Will I have to create a separate page for all the categories (appetizers, soups, salads, etc) I currently have listed under the current “Recipe” Page?

If you’d like one recipe page to use as an index of all of your recipes, that’s no problem. You don’t need to create separate pages for all the categories — you can use the display posts shortcode I mentioned multiple times on the same page.

If you’d like to set that up on the Recipes page you have now, you can use the headings you already set up and put each category’s shortcode underneath it. For example:

    Appetizers
    [display-posts category="appetizers" image_size="thumbnail"]

    Pasta
    [display-posts category="pasta-and-noodles" image_size="thumbnail"]

    Salads
    [display-posts category="salads" image_size="thumbnail"]

    etc.

The posts in each of those categories will then be automatically listed on the page there along with a thumbnail image.
