Hi,
You can find a support document on how to map a subdomain here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/Hope this helps :)

Thanks catklinson,
I think I will see all the options after I purchase a plan.
Right now, I am on free plan, so all the points in the support document are not there. -
Hi @yashitamittal11,
I want to create a new subdomain for this: blog.allaboutwordpress18.wordpress.com
You won’t able to create a sub-domain on the free plan or even paid plan if you have registered the domain through WordPress.com, if you register a domain elsewhere and then create a sub-domain called blog.yoursitename.com through your domain provider then you can map that domain here using Domain Mapping feature which costs you $13/year if it’s additional domain with your plan or else it is free to map single domain with your WordPress.com plans.
When you purchase any of the WordPress.com Plans then you are able to access a free domain credit which you can either use to register a domain of your choice or Map a domain for free if you already own the domain ( Any-one), additional domain mapping cost you around $13/year.
What I would advice is create a specific page for “a blog” and then add it to the menu.
Firstly, login to your WordPress.com site > My Sites> select your site>
Pages> “Create a page called “Blog posts” or “Posts page” or whichever you to name it.And then go to My Sites> “Personalize” (Themes) > Home Page Settings
Select the posts page to the page which you have created. Also, make sure to create a Menu for the showing your “Posts page or Blog page” which you’ve created for showing blog posts.
Creating Menu please visit: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/Or there’s another extension available too while registering your domain you can choose to go with .blog extension.
WordPress.com supports registering domains with the extensions (TLDs) listed here.More information about domains can be found here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/all-about-domains/Hope this helps!

Thanks vishalmukadam,
I am a little bit confused. I don’t want to add anything in the menu. That will not serve my purpose.
What I understand is that,
I can purchase a premium plan and can register my domain in this plan.
That means, instead of allaboutwordpress18.wordpress.com, I will register allaboutwordpress18.com.Now, if I want to create a sub-domain like blog.allaboutwordpress18.com and point it to an external site, then I have to spend additional $13?

WordPress.com won’t allow you to create a sub-domain for domains purchased through WordPress.com that means you won’t able to do that.
(Staff please correct me If I am wrong about this). For this, I will call staff by adding “modlook” tag on this thread to help you clear confusion on this. Please wait to hear back from staff.
Thanks!

?? As I don’t see a modlook tag I have added one to ask for clarification on how subdomains work by staff.

Hi there,
First:
I have a free domain allaboutwordpress18.wordpress.com
I want to create a new subdomain for this: blog.allaboutwordpress18.wordpress.comYou can’t do this. The free *.wordpress.com address is already a subdomain of the WordPress.com domain, and you cannot add your own sub-subdomain to that.
In order to use a subdomain on any domain, you first have to own the domain itself. So, if you want to use the subdomain, blog.allaboutwordpress18.com, you first need to own the domain, allaboutwordpress18.com
If you buy any of our plans you have the option to register one domain, or to map one domain/subdomain to your site as part of the plan. If you use the free domain credit to register the domain, allaboutwordpress18.com, you will need to buy a domain mapping upgrade extra if you specifically want your site to appear at blog.allaboutwordpress18.com
When you register allaboutwordpress18.com, all possible subdomains on that domain will automatically redirect to your site, but if you want your site to actually show a subdomain in the browser address bar when someone looks at your site, that subdomain will need to be specifically mapped to your site.

Thanks for the clarification
I understand the above scenario. I have one more question.
Is sub-domain mapping to Tumblr account free? This blog mentions it is free.

Hi Yashita –
Good morning :)
Is sub-domain mapping to Tumblr account free?
No, it’s not possible to redirect your free .wordpress.com site to another service free of charge. You don’t have access to the DNS records for free sites as that article describes. That’s only available for custom domains that are registered through us, and that would require a plan upgrade.
If you’d like to move all of your content to tumblr and start with them, then you could create a site export and do it that way.

Hi
Sorry for not providing enough information.
I am talking about the scenario when I have purchased a paid plan and registered a domain allaboutwordpress18.com.Now, is it possible to create a sub-domain and point it to tumblr for free?
Regards

Hi @yashitamittal11, thanks.
If you bought allaboutwordpress18.com, you could change the DNS settings for blog.allaboutwordpress18.com wherever you’d like, free of charge on our end.
Just note the site you point it to may also require a plan for that subdomain to work.
I hope this helps!

Thanks,
That helped.
I have been able to create a sub-domain and set the DNS records properly. -
