How to create an archives page?

  Just made this wordpress blog and would like to create an archives page that looks similar to this http://slatestarcodex.com/archives/ I googled and found some tutorials for editing PHP but I’m not sure if the free plan let’s you edit a page’s PHP? Is there any way of doing this?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Create an Archive using the Archives Shortcode
  https://en.support.wordpress.com/archives-shortcode/

  However, please be aware that you can never edit the PHP code on WordPress.com no matter what plan you have.
