How to Create Category Archives
-
Hello,
Im having the hardest time trying to figure this out. I want to create category archives. For instance my blog is being used as a design portfolio, I want to be able to click on the links such as ‘design’ and take you directly to my design work. For example look at the links on http://thepatternedplate.wordpress.com. I created pages through the HTML text widgets tab and Im not sure if I delete them or not. If anyone can walk me through this I would greatly appreciate it. I’ll even let you do it!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Every time you publish a post with Categories assigned to it the software automatically posts it on the dynamic (continuously updating) Categories pages. If you also assign Sub-categories to your posts the same thing happens with them.
You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic (continuously updating) Categories pages to it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-category-pages
order them in a hierarchical structure ie. as dropdowns from parent categories. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#changing-the-order-of-menu-items-and-creating-sub-menus -
Here’s a link to a custom menu walkthrough > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/08/11/wordpress-com-custom-menu-walk-through/
There are many common errors, misunderstanding and misconceptions when creating custom menus and you can read about them here > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/

Lastly, it’s critical for you to understand that it’s not the static pages that we bloggers create that will update. Staic pages will not automatically update. Delete the ones you created and add only the dynamic (continuously updating) Categories pages created by the software to your custom menu.
