How to create subcategories

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m having a bit of trouble figuring out how to set up my categories. Right now I’m going to use my Parodies category as an example. See, I have Part One and Part Two of a parody that I’m writing. The problem is, they both appear on one page. Is there a way I can seperate them so that when you click on the ‘Parodies’ category, you come to a page where there are two seperate links for Part One and Part Two? That way the reader doesn’t have to search through if it gets particularly long. And I hate having them together like that, it’s far too messy.

I’m sure there is a way to do this, but I’m kind of new here and rather technologically challenged. Basiscally what I’m asking is, can I have the ‘Parodies’ as my category, and then have ‘Part One’ as a link/subcategory to ONLY Part One, and ‘Part Two’ as a link/subcategory to ONLY Part two.

Thanks, and I’m sorry if this is confusing!

First of all you must have categories already.

    on the post editor page

click on the “add new Category” an type in the name of your new (sub )category.

Below you see a box that “parent” click on that and a menu opens

the “parent” category you choose…. will have you new category as a subcategory..to it..

    wishforyou,

    Is this your blog:

It is good etiquette to provide a link to your blog when asking a question. Beyond good manners, providing a link helps volunteers to answer with relevant information if we can see your blog.

I’m having a bit of trouble with what your exact question is:
I see that you have only 2 posts so far. Are you planning to write a number of different parodies, or is your blog to be more like a book where you will continue that parody in future posts?

    dlager,

I’m afraid that isn’t exactly what I’m asking. I’m sorry that the question is confusing. I really am trying to word it in an unconfusing manner.

    1tess,

As I said, I am new here. As such, I don’t always know what is considered good etiquette. I believed that simply clicking my username provided a link to the blog, so I thought it would be unnecessary to include a link. Please forgive me.

I mean for it to be like a book. What I mean is, is there I way I can set it up so that the links go like this:

Blog Home Page —> Parodies —> The Mole Parody

And then have links to the different parts (Part One, Part Two, etc.). Thanks!

    wishforyou,

    Does this help?
    http://support.wordpress.com/write-a-book/

The issue of providing a link when asking a question:
give a link starting with http://
or link your name to your blog:
How to make your name link to your blog:
“Go into your dashboard -> users -> your profile -> then scroll down to ‘contact info’. In the spot where it says ‘website’ fill in the address of your blog and save the changes.
Now… when you comment here and on other blogs, your name will link to your blog. If you do this before you post your request for help, it will allow forum volunteers to be able to help you quicker since they won’t have to ask you for a link and wait until you come back to post one.”

    1tess,

That was exactly what I needed. Thank you for all your help. I’m sorry that I missed these things, normally I find them immediately. I apologize for a question that I should have easily found the answer to. Thank you once again!
