How to create thumbnails of blog posts on home page

Hi all,
I have been trying to find a design theme or way of presenting my blog home page as a series of thumbnails of each blog post- e.g. a small picture and the opening paragraph of each blog post. This is a fairly standard way of doing things, but I haven’t been able to do this on my blog. Instead, I have a massive scroll down fest, with each full blog post in sequence as you scroll down. Can anyone help me with this?
