How To Customize Sites More?

    Hi, I’m a complete beginner to WordPress but know some programming and basic HTML and CSS. I have a specific idea of the site I want to build but I don’t see any themes which reflect that idea. For example, I want each of the categories displayed at the top of the site to have drop down menus which can be further expanded if necessary. I also want to make small changes like changing the appearance of the header text on the top of each page. What do I need to do to have such customization options available? Do I need to get the premium version and use CSS? Is there a way to customize sites more extensively than WordPress seems to offer through its themes?

    Hi @pyrotechguy, I’d start with a theme that has drop-down menus built in. Most of them will if you arrange your menu items like this:

    Menus

    From there, pick a theme that’s close, or use blocks and block patterns to make it just right.

    Just note I don’t recommend super complex drop down menus for sites that mobile users will visit.
