How to customize Start Page

    Is it possible to have the first page a user sees customizable? I just dont really want to have the last blog I wrote, would prefer to have it be more inviting to search articles. Maybe it could be like a more detailed overview of all the posts available and categories….

    Also my blg is more of a starting point for a book i am trying to write. Its useful to get comments from firneds. my blogs are like chapters, is there anyway to order my writings, and the categories a bit more? Perhaps sort the blogs a bit more not just chronologically?

    Should i be using a different software?

    Actually you may want to look at the faq blog as there’s a FAQ on using your blog as a book.

    Do a search for ‘static front page’ here in the forums. That sounds like what you’re looking for. I’m on a locked down terminal with only one browser window currently so i can’t do the searching for you I’m afraid.

    Reading Options
    Front Page
    Front page displays:
    Your latest posts
    A static page (select from drop down menu below)
    * Front page:
    * Posts page

    Click “Update Options” to save

    Now that I have provided the “how to’s” above, I’m here to tell you that there is a downside to having a static front page. In terms of blog ranking Google heavily relies on the front page information and determines the blog’s ranking based in part on the number of links to your posts, the number of comments and the page rank of the Categories and links listed in your sidebar. Your static front page may be as inviting as you choose to make it but if it lacks the elements above then it has nothing that can be used to determine a page rank.

    My thing with the static front page is that a lot of “blog purists” wouldn’t call it a blog unless you have actual posts on the front page. I know the issue comes up on occasion over at blogshares and they won’t label a site as a blog unless the posts are there.

    being nickpickie but just something to think about.
