How to delete a blog, when they no longer have the email address they used?
-
Hi there,
I run a WordPress Support Group and today someone came in asking how they could get their super-old blog removed from WordPress.com.
The blog contains their (very old) resume, and is showing up in web search results.
They no longer have access to the email address they used to set up their blog (5 or so years ago), so they may not be able to find that original email that was sent when the site was activated, so they are not able to do the “forgot password” thing.
Is there a form for that? I did a search through the “delete my account” and “account recovery” section of your site, but there was nothing I could see that would help him without access to that email.
Thank you in advance,
Anca.

Thanks Anca for posting my problem. Let me provide some further information:
I don’t know which email address the account was set up with.
If I request a new password by selecting “forgot my password”, after entering the username I get “Account Deleted”.
I can’t recover the account because I don’t have any of the three “proof of ownership” options.
So the mystery is, if the account is deleted, why are the pages showing up?
And the practical question is, how can I either delete the pages, or re-activate the account?
Thanks in advance,
Michael -
Hi there,
It is impossible to help you if you don’t provide the URL of the site in question.
If I request a new password by selecting “forgot my password”, after entering the username I get “Account Deleted”.
WordPress.com accounts cannot be deleted, but if you’d at some point changed the username that username would be disabled and you’d need to use the new username to reset the password.
If you give me the URL of the site I can tell you the correct username, but if you no longer have access to the correct email address to receive a password reset link and don’t have any of the other verification info, we won’t be able to help you access the account.

Another though occurred to me: I may be mistaken about having closed the account, and something may have gone wrong at WordPress, which might explain the odd situation that the password recovery mechanism claims the account is closed, while the pages still show up. Does this sound possible?

Hi Kokkieh,
Thanks for the reply! This is making more sense now.
The URL of the site is: michaelshiloh.wordpress.com
Looking forward to the reply,

Hi Michael,
That site was created by and still belongs to the username, judyaimecastro, and it looks like that username was able to log into the account only 3 days ago.
You can use that username to reset the password, provided you have access to the correct email address, or if you know who is using that username you can contact them directly to sort this out.
I cannot tell you the email address associated with that username.

Aha! I think I understand now. I gave someone else ownership of that username, for the primary blog, and forgot that I had this second blog.
That explains it all. Thanks very much!
