How to delete ALL of my posts but keep my blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have too many posts to delete individually, and that Bulk Action > Trash doesn’t seem to be working for me. I want to keep this blog address and title, but I want to delete all posts.

    How is that done?????

The bulk option is the only way to delete more than one post at a time.

The Bulk Option sometimes deletes and sometimes doesn’t………….. very time consuming, but I guess I will have to do it this way.

I would not mind if following the procedure works, but it does not always work and I end up clicking and clicking for the same posts.

I want to keep the blogname, the url, and the rest of it but just want to delete all the posts.

I recommend if you’re having technical issues with the bulk edit to submit a ticket to staff http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

By just deleting the posts and pages you will still be able to keep the URL and blog name as long as you don’t utilize the option to delete the whole entire blog.

…you may want to create a backup XML file first.

When you’re on your “All Posts” page, click on “Screen Options” then and change the number of posts displayed in the “Show on screen” area to something really high (100) and “Apply”. Then click the “select all” button and move them all into trash, then delete them from there. You should be able to get rid of a hundred at a time.

If the “Move to Trash” function isn’t working then you should contact support to get it fixed.

But, seriously, make a backup XML file first. It’s fast and easy. Once these things are gone you lose all the comments, all the links, everything you’ve worked on.

    @LornaKismet
Please do not do this until after you export a copy of all your blog content out of the blog first. that way you will have a copy that you may want to access in the future.

    Dashboard > Tools > Export

When you click the button below WordPress will create an XML file for you to save to your computer. This format will contain your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags.

Once you’ve saved the download file, you can use the Import function on another WordPress blog to import this blog.

Click > Download Export File button

Save the file to your desktop

I’m sorry I overlooked your comment. I saw the thread title and I was in such a hurry to SHOUT – export out a copy! that I didn’t read all the comments first.

…perfectly understandable, I’d have done the same thing. I hate to see people dump years of hard work when saving it takes no time, and no space.

Well, I was sent a notice this morning saying that I am in violation of the TOS. To rectify this, I am told that I must present only excerpts , not the entire article. All my posts have urls/links to the original article, but to shorten them to excerpt length would mean a lot of time, just when I need extra time to make politica videos for YouTube and personal movies and slideshows for my Mobile Me Gallery.

Since all those articles are in copyright violation, I want to just delete them all now and forgo the option of accessing them at another time.

BUT I DO WANT TO KEEP THE NAME AND THE URL FOR FUTURE USE.
This blog has pleasant memories for me.

    Okay. Now I understand.

Wow. Definitely get support to fix the trash bin for you, then set the “Show on screen” to 300 and start moving everything over. That’d be the easiest option…

I still think exporting an XML file to your computer would be a good way of saving all of the information — yours and others — so you don’t lose it. You can upload it to a private blog later on so you can access the information without violating the TOS. Maybe, over time, you can edit the XML file so it meets the TOS and upload it again to your ‘lornakismet’ blog.

    Good luck.

Where can I find that ”Show on Screen“ so I can set it to the maximum number? (300)

I do not want to keep a private blog, since my whole purpose was to help what I consider a worthy cause.

So I will just take my punishment and delete all the blogs rather than fix each one of them, or many of them.

i found ”Show on Screen.“ It doesn’t refer to posts. It refers to the items found on the Dashboard without clicking onto anything from the left sidebar. “Show in screen” does not help to delete more posts at once or in less time.

Go to the “Edit Posts” screen, and it’ll be a drop down tab / menu in the upper right corner. It’ll be right above the “Search Posts” box. Try setting it at the number of posts you’ve published. It should work.

  • Unknown's avatar

You need to be on the Edit Posts page. The screen options change per screen you’re on.

Ok. I found it. I tried entering 300 points, but got a message saying that that was too large a number, so I changed it to 100. That was ok, because I am still waiting, and no message came up.

I have about 1700 posts or more to delete.

And now every time I delete, I get a message saying, “Error in moving to trash.”

You might have to empty the trash several times during the process. It may be that it has a limit either in regards to space, or possibly number of posts. Space limitation would be my guess.

can’t find the button “Show on Screen”
