How to delete an individual profile from a group-shared site?

    I would like to delete my profile from the group site Closet Writers. I have read that it is impossible to do this, but I feel this option should be available. No one has the right to my details, even my email, if I do not want them to have it. It is my intellectual property. Can someone from WordPress please fix this issue for me, or clarify the process if I have understood the process incorrectly?

    Hi there,

    I believe there are several things in play here, many of which you can do something about.

    When you say “remove your profile from the group site” that is doable. For example, I believe this page includes a bio for you: http://closetwriters.wordpress.com/about/. That can be removed simply by editing the page and removing the paragraph about you. I wasn’t able to find any other mention of you on the site, but if I missed something, the general rule on the site is anything that you published can be unpublished. If you have a specific page or mention of you that you are having trouble with, let me know and I’ll help you figure out how to remove it.

    If you are still seeing the “Closet Writers” site on your dashboard and would like to remove it, you can do so by following these instructions. (Note–you’ll want to remove the info about you on the site first as once you leave you won’t have editing privileges, so one of the sites other contributors would have to do it for you.

    If you would like there to be no remnant of you left on WordPress.COM at all, you can get very close to that reality. It’s not possible to completely delete your account, but you can update the e-mail address on the account you no longer need to a “throw away” account and then leave the profile inactive. This way no one will be able to impersonate you with your username, and WordPress.COM will no longer have your real e-mail address.

    Thank you very much, that was all very informative.

    I fixed two of the problems, but unfortunately I can’t fix the email issue because I have to create a new email, and the new email provider requires a postcode and valid phone number. I just don’t want those details on an inactive profile, so I’ll just have to put up with my email still being linked to this page.

    No email provider I know will actually CHECK those details, so if you’re okay with lying to them you can still do this.
