How to delete credit card details ?

    Hello,

    Is there a way to manually pay the annual subscription fees each year WITHOUT leaving the credit card details to wordpress.com ?

    Related question : how to delete an already registered credit card, without cancelling the subscription ?

    Maybe I missed something, but I’m pretty irritated to see that as a wp.com customers I have no other choice than allowing wp.com to keep my credit card details !

    – For payment, we accept all major credit and debit cards, and you can also pay directly through your PayPal account. In some countries, we support additional local payment methods. Please refer to the support documentation below:

    Hi there,

    Your credit card information is securely stored in our system and it is not accessible to anyone but you and our payment provider. Not even staff can access that information.

    If you don’t want your card to be automatically billed each year I can turn the auto-renewal off and you can renew your plan yourself manually.

    Alternatively, you can use a payment gateway like PayPal to avoid sharing your credit card information with WordPress.com.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the answers. For some reason I didn’t receive any notification, so I didn’t see them until now.

    Actually the support team turned off the auto-renewal after I sent them an email, and it removed to credit card details as well. So it’s OK now.

    That said this is pretty opaque for the customers :
    – paying by card or paypal automatically turns on the auto-renewal and keep the card or paypal details, without any possibility to say ‘no’
    – once the auto-renewal is on, there’s no way to easily turn it off, we have to contact the staff

    This is done to compel the customers. Amazon does pretty much the same (keeping the card details after a paiement), but at least it’s easy to suppress the card afterwards…

    How secure are stored the card (or paypal, that’s the same) details is not relevant to me : I would just like to have the choice with simple options to check or not.

    Hi there,

    Thank you for the feedback! The reason why we keep the payment information and enable auto-renewal is to prevent an upgrade from expiring as this may result in unwanted site changes or loss of domains.
