How to delete double posted media
-
Hello
Accidentally I have uploaded some pics several times. Unfortunately I cannot see which media I used in my blog and which ones I could delete because it is not used. Is there some kind of filter option to see the media I did not use so far? I know there is the filter button (in german) “Nicht verknüpft” but it also shows the media I have used in picture galleries and these I do not want to delete.
Thanks a lot!

Hi! I’m reviewing recent help requests in the forums tagged “media” and wanted to follow up with you.
There is a way to view unattached images in the older version of the Media Library in WP Admin, however, that designation is for images that were uploaded and inserted into posts via normal routes and it’s possible to reference unattached images later by copying the URL and using it manually. If that sounds unfamiliar, then you may be okay to delete unattached images, but there is no guarantee that deleting an unattached image from your media library will not break an image reference somewhere because it really depends on how your images were uploaded and referenced over time. So be always be careful when deleting media! It is an action that cannot be undone.
To view unattached images, go to http://donnhofrichter.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php and select unattached.
Instead of trying to delete older images, I would strongly recommend just being careful with uploads in the future. If it’s just one image you’re having trouble with, then you might consider deleting all of the old versions of the image from the media library and then re-uploading a fresh copy so that you know for sure it will work.
