How to delete old notifications?

How do I delete old notifications from the new drop-down notifications list? Once I’ve seen, read, replied to, or otherwise addressed them, I’ve no need to ever see them again. They are just clutter/trash.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I don’t have a clue how to delete them or if the developers even provided a means for deleting them. Do you find anything useful on this page that I cannot see? https://wordpress.com/notifications/ Or in this support doc? http://en.support.wordpress.com/notifications/ I don’t so I tagged this thread for a Staff response. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

Hi, tt. No, I don’t see anything on either of those pages. What appears to be an infinite scroll on the new drop-down list may actually be only 100 (per the support doc), but who wants to scroll that far on a drop-down list of old notifications? I just want to see the new ones, not all of them.

That makes perfect sense to me. Hopefully, Staff will provide a link so we can delete the old ones.

    Thanks for the feedback.

There is no way to delete notifications completely–which is pretty common. If you look at the notifications for other websites you visit (like Facebook) you’ll notice the same thing.

who wants to scroll that far on a drop-down list of old notifications? I just want to see the new ones, not all of them.

The new notifications will always be posted at the top, so you shouldn’t have to scroll, unless one day it turns out you do need one of the old ones, and then it will be there for you.

They’re always listed on the notifications page. Why not make it possible to show only the current ones in the dropdown list? Or at least hide the old ones.

As for Facebook, etc., I don’t care what they do. I’m not into social media, which makes many of the changes at WP all the more frustrating.

Fair enough. I’ll pass on your concerns about the way notifications work.

Oops. How unintuitive is the new dropdown list? Following this discussion, when I looked at the list this morning, I noticed for the first time an option to trash the comment. Aha! I thought. A way to clean old comments out of the list. Of course what it actually did was remove the comment from among those already posted — something I do only on the post page or the comments page on the everchanging dashboard.

I don’t read, evaluate, comment or in any way administer comments via what should be a simple notification list. I do it in context on the post page. Please consider returning the dropdown notifications list to the simple list it was before. It doesn’t need to duplicate the many functions already available elsewhere. It should simply “notify.”

I’ve reported both of your areas of concern to the group of developers working on the new notifications system. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts on this.
