How to Delete WordPress.com Site
-
We recently signed up for an Akismet account, and followed the links/steps directly from our self-hosted WordPress website. It looks like during this setup it not only created a WordPress.com account, which is the one I am logged into right now (it uses the same user/pass from the Akismet setup), but it also created a WordPress.com website. We cannot get access to this site, nor do we know how this site was setup. We reached out to Akismet, but that did not do much. So, I’m reaching out to you since this is a website on your service. We honestly don’t need access to the site, we just want it taken down/removed as it’s causing confusion with our core website that was listed above. Please let me know the steps we need to take to delete that website. I did not add the website URL for now, since this is posted to a public forum, but I can provide if it’s needed.

Hi,
Have you tried to follow the instructions in the Delete Site support page? If you’re logged into the WordPress.com account containing the site that you intend to delete, then you’ll have access to My Sites, and My Sites > Settings. From there, just follow the step-by-step instructions in the support page.

That’s just it, we DON’T have access to this site. We have no idea how it was created, except that it showed up after we signed up for Akismet which also created a WordPress.com account for us. When we log into our WordPress.com account, though, it states that we do not have any sites.
So, we have no idea how it was created, how to get access to it, and ultimately delete it as it’s not wanted…nor was it ever requested to be a site.
Is there a way to contact WordPress.com to have them delete it?

If that’s the case, then why do you say,
It looks like during this setup it not only created a WordPress.com account, which is the one I am logged into right now (it uses the same user/pass from the Akismet setup), but it also created a WordPress.com website.
What is the address (URL) of the site you refer to in the second quote? Or if you don’t know the address, then what makes you think you have a WordPress.com site?
I’ve called for staff attention to the topic.

@mark218
Pleas answer Staff’s question https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-to-delete-wordpresscom-site?replies=6#post-2962429What is the site address of the site you’re trying to delete?

The issue is that you are most likely not logged in under the exact same username account that registered that site and therefore owns it.
re: deleting sites
All sites are independent. What you do on one or to one has no impact on any other site. To delete a WordPress.COM hosted site you must be logged in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog to navigate to Dashboard > Tools > Delete Site. The guide is here http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/ note the alternatives provided there.
https://wordpress.com/settings/delete-site/NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com
*Replace “NAME_OF_BLOG” with the actual name of the blog in the URL above.
If you are not logged in under the correct WordPress.COM username account then clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies prior to logging into another account
If you do not have the required access you need to contact the person who registered the account and site under it and have them act to delete the site, or transfer the site to your username account by using this process. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account
The owner of the site can transfer the site (and/or upgrades) to another account by adding another username account as an Admin. https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator
Transferring a Blog to Another WordPress.com User or Account https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/
If you think you registered the site read on.
WordPress.COM Account recovery
If you check each and every possible email address and account and are not successful gaining access to the blog(s) then you must complete the form for account recovery at this link https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery and submit it to the Account Recovery Staff, and provide proof ownership, so they can contact you by email ie. not on these public support forums, which are available to everyone with internet access.Support Staff cannot breach the privacy policy and provide the log-in information. You have to provide proof ownership to Account Recovery Staff to gain access https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/

The site we are trying to delete is:
The reference to “we” is an indication that you do not comprehend that every site has a sole owner. Companies, groups and organizations of any kind do not own WordPress.COM blogs. Every WordPress.COM blog has a sole owner. It is the person with the WordPress.COM username account who registered the blog under that username account and a single associated email address, and who is the original Admin of the blogs registered under that username account.

The https://mncorporateresourcelibrary.wordpress.com/ has default posts published on 4 January 2017, four months before the mark218 account was created. The site is not in the mark218 account.

Hi @timethief. I’m sure you did.
The site is not in the mark218 account.
…unless it was transferred to the account later, but that doesn’t seem likely.

@musicdoc1
I agree. The use of the royal “we” is an indication that twigged me to post what I did.In fact, I usually post a copy past response to deleting sites questions that covers all the bases. lol :D

Appreciate the help, and noticing the post date. I apologize for the use of the word “we,” but not sure how else to state it as we as an organization have no idea how this individual blog was created – or by what individual. I’m just accustomed to saying we with anything involving our group instead of I as an individual.
We/I assumed it was created with the Akismet signup since that created an account for us. Just shortly after this sign up we became aware of that WordPress.com account.
With that said, it looks like this was created by an individual months ago, of which we have no idea who set this up (again, thank you for noticing that creation date).
Is there any resource that tells me how to get in touch with the individual that created the account? Or, a way to find out what email address was used to create the account, in case someone here created it and plain forgot, or did not realize they created the site?

Hello –
Is there any resource that tells me how to get in touch with the individual that created the account? Or, a way to find out what email address was used to create the account, in case someone here created it and plain forgot, or did not realize they created the site?
You can reach out through any publicly displayed contact information on the site. I’m not able to give you any details for privacy protection.

Thank you staff-zinnia, but unfortunately, there is no forward facing contact info or submission form on that website.

Annnnddddd, problem solved. The person that created it from within the organization came forward. It has been taken down.
I apologize for the runaround, but appreciate the great help and support helping me out!
