How to Disable Comments box

  I have searched, and cannot find, how to remove a comments box from the bottom of a page (2011 theme)
  I have unchecked every box in settings > discussion, but the box still appears.
  Some pages are info only; no comment needed.

  Hello there,
  This page > Settings > Discussion
  Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.
  We can also override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any post or page.

  Depending on the theme we use when we close comments a phrase like “comments closed” or a similar phrase may appear and if so, it can only be removed by CSS editing after purchasing a custom design upgrade.

  To be clear on this you can disable comments on any page or post. But to get rid of the mesaage that appears on some themes when you disable comments such as “comments closed” you need the custom design upgrade.
