How could I disable “Follow” pop up subscription in either iPad view or standard web view? I have been tried in Appearance > widgets > blog subscription to delete. Doesn’t work. plz help me out.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. I believe that has to do with the theme for iPads. As such, I have tagged this thread so that it’s moved to the Themes forum.
(Mods: if I’m wrong, kindly tell me. Thanks!)

  • I’m not sure I follow exactly what you’re referring to. Could you perhaps upload a screenshot of it and paste the URL into a reply here?

Perhaps this is what it is?

In the lower righthand corner on my MacPro Safari Browser:

    http://nm5mr.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/follow2.png

I’m also confused over how to enable or disable this. I like it, and want it on my other blogs.

  • @n5hc Perfect, those screenshots help a lot. What you’re seeing is something we’re testing for logged out users right now on new sites and non-mobile views.

There isn’t a way to disable it at this point but we’re looking at a lot of feedback about it to figure out how to make it better. Thanks for taking the time to post!

Problem with this is it appears to be random. It’s not consistently available for all new sites. I did scratch my head for days. As some blogs that I added had this and later a new blog did not. As I said before, I like it and I want it on my/our blogs.

    Hi
I have just started a new blog at http://www.ikenewton.wordpress.com
I am also getting the same follow pop up as shown on the links above but at least I now know what it is and that it is being tested at present and can’t be disabled.
I can sort of see the purpose but I just don’t think it looks very attractive stuck there at the bottom of the page …. especially when there is a side bar widget available anyway. So it would be good to be able to disable the follow pop up if you do decide to keep this feature.
    All the best
    Kris.

I have also been searching for a way to disable this annoying little extra tag pop up since I first opened my new diet site. The single most important reason that I stay with wordpress in the first place is that wordpress has always been ad free. Popups and other gimmicks like that just clutter the page and distract from the readers’ concentration. People work hard to get visitors to come to their sites and they do not need any more distactions to carry their visitors away from the important stuff that they are writing about.

I will be happy to see the disable option added. I hope that wordpress will notify us soon on how to disable this small but annoying addition.

I have always been a happy camper at wordpress. I hope that lasts.

Actually, I prefer to disable “Follow” pop up subscription application . It must upon my choice. Moreover , although I DO NOT want to show total number of subscribers, in the popup; numbers can be viewed. I need an urgent correction….

@bobsdiet and @eatweekend: The button can now be removed:
    http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/09/21/more-traffic-for-your-blog-with-the-follow-button/ (see question 2)

@astrolojikosesi: I suggest you bring it to the attention of staff:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ (to display the form, search for anything in the search engine, then indicate that you haven’t found the answer to your question).

Thanks so much for allowing clients to turn off the follow button. It’s nice to have that option, and even nicer to know that someone out there listens to their clients. Just another reason why I keep coming back to WordPress — great service! Good job!
