How to disable the Gallery feature?

I don’t want it generating a gallery whenever I add multiple images on my posts. Plus it breaks the theme for some reason. Either way, I still want to disable the Gallery feature on my blog. I can’t seem to find where to disable it. It’s quite annoying to edit the post every time. :/

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Then don’t insert a gallery. Insert the images one at a time. And also if your theme supports it, make sure you posts are not using the “gallery” post type.

As tsp said, you can insert images one at a time from the Media Library tab after you’ve uploaded your images and added any extra information you want, such as captions and descriptions. Remember to save your changes before switching to the Media Library tab in the Image Uploader.

From my experience it is much, much quicker to use the Gallery feature to insert images that are the full width for your theme, if you are willing to get into a little additional code on the HTML Editor after inserting a Gallery. After you insert the Gallery, switch to the HTML editor and look for the Gallery shortcode which will look like this without the extra spaces
    [ gallery ]

Add ‘size=”full”‘ to that shortcode so that it looks like
    [ gallery size=”full” ]
and your images will now display the width of your theme’s posting column

If using a Gallery breaks your theme, then that is something you should definitely contact Support about as that’s not supposed to happen http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

They’ll be back on Monday, August 29th or thereabouts.

And obviously I have not yet had my second cup of coffee this morning!

In addition to size=”full”, you will also need to add columns=”1″ for your images to display a single column. :)

The full shortcode looks like this, without the extra spaces around the brackets:
    [ gallery size=”full” columns=”1″ ]

But what if I am autoposting from Posterous.com? All my other autoposted blog entries are fine when I look at it on my Tumblr or my Typepad blogs. The only blog where it breaks off and goes into “Gallery” mode is at WordPress. I assume there’s a simple checkbox that I can uncheck to disable the Gallery.

If you were posting by email, you could use the [ nogallery ] tag to prevent a Gallery from being used. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-by-email/

More importantly, you might want to rethink autoposting the same material on 4 different sites. You’re not only competing with yourself in terms of site rankings, but autoposting is pretty much frowned upon by WordPress.com. http://en.wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/ (Check out the section on “Automated Blogs”.)

@Jennifer, I know that having four different blogs with the same content will get me competition but I was just thinking of at least propagating content unto my blogs. My main one is hosted at Posterous but I took the shedosurashu.wordpress.com blog for the namesake. Instead of letting it (and my other registered blogs) collect dust, I thought it would be okay to atleast put some content into it. Also I’ve read the link you gave me and I believe my blog is indeed an automated blog, but far from what that page says, it’s actually content that I make myself. Not randomly generated ones and / or link dumps or any of the said kinds.

As for [ no gallery ], that is only on the WordPress’ end right? Some blogs like Posterous simply display [ no gallery ] as plain text and thus will include it on all the other blogs where it gets autoposted too.
