How to display a default category to the reader

Unfortunately, the support pages do not address this. All I could find was…
“The Default Post Category lets you select the category to be applied to a post if you forget to assign categories before publishing.” That’s not what I want. I want a certain category to appear when the visitor first arrives at the blog.

On my blog, I want the visitor to see the most recent part of the trip, such as “Trip part 8”. Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

A blog automatically posts the newest posts at the top, so unless you tinker with it to prevent that, this is what will happen normally. But you can also use a Custom Menu with a static front page; they won’t go directly to the category page; there is no way to send people to a category page first, but from the static page they can click to the category page in one click.

Sounds like it should work. Thank you.
