How to display category descriptions

I know how to create categories and I know how to write descriptions for the categories. However, my WordPress theme does not automatically display the descriptions on the category pages. How do I get those descriptions to show up on the category pages? I have found articles that say to add code to the categories or archive php in the theme editor, but none of them say exactly where to add that code. They either don’t say or they say ‘where you want the description.’ I have no idea what that means in terms of a spot in the archive.php file.
Anyone here have any tips?

Using custom PHP is not possible on our managed hosting environment at WordPress.com.

https:giftsforlearning.comI should add, though, that all of the articles I found on making category descriptions visible on the category page say almost the same thing. And what they all tell me to change involves php pages in my theme.
