How to display subcategories on parent pages?
-
Right now the parent pages to my subcategories merely display the most recent posts in those subcats. When a poster visits the page, I want them to have a content — not just a sidebar — display of the subcategories available.
For example, visitors to the 2007 page should be able to see links to 12 separate pages: Jan 2007, Feb 2007, and so forth.
This is candy in HTML. How do I do it in WP without digging into lots of code I don’t comprehend?

Some themes are hardcoded to display links to subpages and some aren’t. Either way if you place the Pages widget in the sidebar then the links to the subpages will become available. Or you can simply add the sub-pages links to the bottom of the pages themselves.
Also, although I could be wrong, and I could be misunderstanding you — you seem to be pointing at Pages and expecting them to do exactly what the Archives widget already does.
Re: digging into code
This is a wp-MU wordpress multi-user blogging platform. We cannot access or edit our underlying templates. If we could do so then every other blog with the same theme would be likewise effected. -
Thanks for the reply. I don’t want to dig into the code — I’m a PHP idiot and don’t want to lay waste to the code. I didn’t realize this was a theme-specific problem. I’m not talking about the sidebar, I want to have the parent page display subcategory links in the main content field. (I’m using WP as a CMS, not as a blog per se.)
Man, I don’t want to have to change themes again.

You can manually enter as many links as you wish on any page or on any sub-page. But only some themes are coded to automatically provide sub-page links.
Changing themes is no big deal. No data is lost. Sidebars may revert to default widget positioning but can be readily re-arranged in just moments.

I have no problem with manually entering links. I had hoped that there was a method or a plugin that would do it for me, but I can do this instead. Thanks for the advice.

Sorry to have intruded into your sandbox, TimeThief. I’ll stay to my side of the playground from here on out. Hope you weren’t uncomfortable rubbing elbows with the unwashed.

You’re welcome to have drmike enlighten you. He’s into geek speak and has a knowledge of both wp-MU software and regular wordpress software. I don’t. I have only a working knowledge of wordpress.com software use, nothing more. I’m glad my information was useful to you. Best wishes for your survival over there in what you called the “jungle”. ;)
