how to do a ping back?
-
I can’t find an “enable ping backs” widget(?).
And how do I “do” a ping back on someone else’s site to connect them back to my post?
Thanks in advance!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

See the illustration here please > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pingbacks/#disabling-pingbacks and do opposite to enable pingbacks.

See also the Discussion page settings: http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/
Default Article Settings
In the Default article settings, there are three options. These settings are defaults for new posts or pages, which can always be changed individually on each article. This first two options deal with pingbacks and trackbacks. The first determines if your blog will send out pings and trackbacks to other blogs when you publish articles. -

oopie….
still not sure how to “do” a ping on someone else’s site.
1. i read their post and like it
2. i (think) i then want to ping that post (?) to connect it to my site? -
p.s.
3. they have enabled ping backs
4. will I see a ping back button near their leave a comment box? -
As you already have the settings when you create a post and want to link to another site in it see here for instructions > links in posts and pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/ When the post or page with the link in it is published a ping will be automatically sent by the software.

hmmm…
what i want to do is ping them
it has nothing to do with my post.Say i’m out cruising the www, come across a blog (I’m not in my blog), like a post and want to ping it, thereby connecting it to my blog…which I am not in….
Or am I misunderstanding ping backs?
(thanks for hanging in there with me!) -
I think I’ve got it now.
I can only leave a ping back in someone else’s blog (connecting their site to mine) if they have so enabled their comments, in which case, I’ll see a little “ping box” to tick in their comment section.
At least that’s what it seems like!
Hope that’s right!
Thanks again, thief! -
No.
You need to write a post in which you LINK to their specific post. That is what generates a ping. You can’t JUST ping. You have to link. Pings only exist as a record that someone found the post link-worthy.
