Is there any way to earn from the blog hosted here? I dont see any outlet for this since there are no advertisements allowed.

We can’t have ads due to the javascript which is a security risk But there has been talk of soon having a paid widget for Google adsense. But we can have one discreet text link. Probably best if you email support and ask if it’s okay support@wordpress.com But here is the FAQ on ads:
