How to edit a theme I installed

I recently bought a premium theme from the store and trying to edit the theme as I(have free plan) want. Should I upgrade to Premium plan?

The only themes that can be used on blogs hosted by wordpress.COM are found here https://wordpress.com/themes/ .
You cannot edit any theme template here at wordpress.COM. In fact, you cannot even access the theme template file and no upgrade changes that. Read: Custom design – Frequently Asked Questions
