How to edit code?

  I have been searching on the forums about how to change things on my site, as I am new to wordpress.com, and on the forums I see a lot of talk about changing the code, or the HTML.

  My question is, how do I edit/delete HTML, I cannot find an option to edit code, can anyone tell me where this is located?

  I am using the Twenty Ten Theme. I should also mention that I have not paid any money to wordpress for the theme/url etc, so I am using the free versions of everything at the moment, could that be a reason that I can not edit code?

  You can’t access and edit the PHP or HTML underlying your free hosted WordPress.com theme – period.

  Thank you for the information!
  Being a beginner, I understand what HTML is, but not what CSS or PHP is, however, one of the things I would like to edit, is where on my site it says Posted on *date*´ andposted in uncategorized`, If I upgrade my site to drop the wordpress.com bit, will I be able to have access to that kind of editing? Or will I also need to purchase additional upgrades?

  Staff are all over the forums today and so are the Staff wannabes. But will there be be this much of a Staff presence on the peer support forums on the weekend? Or will the crazymaking loopbacks happen again? Care to place a wager? ;)
