How to edit page HTML?

  • Unknown's avatar

When editing a page in the admin area, is the only way to do it using the “Edit HTML” button? If so, why does that SUCK SO BAD?! It changes all of my code to what it THINKS I wanted to do, and it doesn’t save formatting. SURELY there’s a better way to edit HTML on pages?

EDIT: Looking around some more, I may need to visit the forums for wordpress.org…

    Re your edit:

is your blog on wp.com? If not then you’re quite correct. For info though, I never user the template editor built in to WP as I also think it sucks.

Do all my coding with Dreamweaver in “code mode” and upload the modified file via FTP.

Alternatively, turn off TinyMCE in your User Options…

are you using a wp.com blog or a wp-installed blog? if the former you can get help here, if the latter you should scoot over to wp.org for help.

if it’s the former, you can choose not to use the rich-text editor (that automatically inserts html for you) and edit your html as you please. go to users, then your profile and look for a checkbox that gives you the option of using the rich text editor or not.

*chuckle* And from reading the thread over there, we’ve got another person who can’t stand TinyMCE. :)

Just today I can’t even use TinyMCE and I want to! I have no idea why it has disappeared. I was using it last night….

I’ve checked all the options in the Dashboard and am clearly missing something.

BTW, as per suggestion, I’ve just downloaded BlogDesk. Hmmm…maybe there is something in this – suggest BlogDesk, make editing near impossible, check shares in BlogDesk, make like Cheshire Cat. ;p

Either that or Mr. Oppermann is hoping to be bought out by Microsoft. :)

But to switch between the editors, take a look at Dashboard -> Users -> Your Profile -> The checkbox near the top. Be sure to click on Save Changes when done. You may have to do a forced reload of your page to see the change when you bring up the Write Post page.

    Hope this helps,

I actually tried that and it doesn’t work, drmike. I have also checked and unchecked the box and logged out and back in again to no avail.

It’s a mystery but not a pressing concern now that I can use BlogDesk. Sweems just to be happening to me though, so please don’t worry too much about it!

Have you done the “forced reload” bit? You might have to clear out your browser’s cache as well.

I emptied the cache and that didn’t work and did a refresh (pressed F5) Not sure if that’s the same as a forced reload, I’m thinking not?

Nothing I tried worked, in both of my blogs. However today, I see that the HTML code editor is back, for no apparent reason. ;p

Thanks again for your help, drmike. :)
